Guided mountain bike tour

With a guide through olive groves and cork oak woods; the slowest bike sets the pace. Switch to an e-bike if you prefer.

One evening where nobody cooks and nothing lands on the bill: Tuscan cooking and wood-fired pizza, on us.

Etruscans, mine tunnels, medieval castles and hot springs: every destination is a day trip from the resort. Our reception helps with tickets and routes.

Hard hat on and into a real tunnel: the museum mine explains how pyrite was extracted. The highlight on the doorstep for children. Above it, the open-air theatre sits in the old quarry.

One of the finest old towns in the Maremma: a sloping piazza, a Romanesque cathedral, the Museo della Miniera in a walk-in demonstration mine and the Torre del Candeliere to climb.

Baratti & Populonia archaeological park

Etruscan burial mounds in a pine wood, an acropolis above the bay and a sandy beach for afterwards. Treasure hunt and culture in one.

Harbour town with a castle

Fishing boats, lanes climbing to the medieval fortress, ice cream on the promenade. Parents stroll, children conquer walls.

Maremmana cattle, half-wild horses, trails through pine woods to an empty beach. Ideal walking in autumn; short family-friendly routes are signposted.

Ferry to Elba

An hour by boat from Piombino, half the adventure for children already. On the island: Portoferraio, Napoleon's villa and bays without the summer bustle.

Sulphur water at 37 degrees in white limestone basins, freely accessible and at its best in autumn. Bring water shoes and towels.

Giardino dei Tarocchi

Niki de Saint Phalle's walk-in sculpture park: huge, colourful mosaic figures you can step inside. Art children grasp immediately. The season usually ends in mid-October, so check opening times in advance.

Siena in a day

Piazza del Campo, the cathedral and the Torre del Mangia with 400 steps to climb. The big culture day, in autumn without queues at the ticket desk.

Getting here

By car Via the Brenner or Gotthard pass, then the A12 and SS1 Aurelia to Gavorrano. Free parking at the resort.

Flight & hire car Pisa 120 km (90 min), Florence 175 km (2 hrs), Rome 210 km. Hire cars through our partner Europcar at preferential rates.

By train Follonica station 13 km (15 min), transfer on request.

Frequently asked questions about the autumn family package

Which dates does the package cover?+

All stays between 10 and 24 October 2026 (departure by 24 October at the latest), for as long as the allocation lasts. The included experiences apply from a stay of three nights; we agree the times with you on arrival.

How many people do the included experiences cover?+

The whole family booked into the apartment. The introductory tennis and golf lessons, the guided mountain bike tour (e-bike optional) and the shared dinner are each included once per stay for all family members.

From what age can children take part?+

In our experience tennis and golf work well from around six, the bike tour from around ten or once a child rides confidently on gravel tracks; adults can switch to an e-bike. Tell us your children's ages when you book and we will plan accordingly.

Does the resort have a spa?+

We do not have a conventional spa area. Massages as well as Ayurvedic and sports treatments can be booked on request; a gym, tennis courts and the pool area are also available.

Are the apartments suitable for families?+

Yes. Our two- and three-room apartments have separate bedrooms, a kitchenette, a bathroom and a terrace or balcony. On request our restaurant delivers meals as take-away straight to the apartment.

Are dogs allowed?+

Yes, Il Pelagone is dog-friendly. Please register your dog when booking; our house rules for dogs apply at the resort.
